Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma while expressing shock over the gruesome killing of APC stalwart, Ahmed Gulak, described the incident as an unfortunate clear case of political assassination.

He stated this while addressing Imo people in a broadcast monitored by at the Government House in Owerri, the governor said he is really saddened by the gruesome murder which underscores the ugly security situation in Imo State in recent times.

Uzodinma in his address on Monday stated that the events of the last few weeks do not represent the true character of the Imo people and he assured the people that the government will not leave any stone unturned in going after and apprehending anyone or group perpetrating all the criminal activities in the state.

The governor sympathized with the families of those who lost their lives within the recent period of unrest, most especially the family of late Ahmed Gulak.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has warned his Imo state counterpart, Hope Uzodinma, to stop preempting the police on matters involving investigation into the assassination of Ahmed Gulak, an All-Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain.

Reacting to the comments by Uzodimma on Gulak’s murder, Wike said it was too early to say the murder of the former aide of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has political coloration.

Wike, who spoke in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, implored Uzodimma to allow security operatives conclude their investigation before attributing the murder to politicians.

The Rivers governor said the comments of his Imo colleague show that Uzodimma already knows the outcome of the police investigation.

“The point is noticeably clear. We should not try to politicize everything. I think the governor of Imo state, my brother, Hope Uzodimma, should allow the security agencies to do their proper investigation,” Wike said.

“It is too early for him to come out to say it is political assassination. Having done that, it means that you already know, and knowing a product of investigation means that you already know those who committed the crime and that will not be fair.

“When things of this nature happen, allow the security agencies to really go into the matter.”
