PDP BOT To Resign, Atiku Willing to Sacrifice Ayu

The unrelenting camp of Gov Nyesom Wike is coasting home victory as the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Walid Jibrin, has offered to resign from his position.

TMSnews gathered that some members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) met in Abuja on Tuesday night and resolved not to attend any meeting presided over by the embattled National Chairman, henceforth.

However, Sen. Wali Jibrin who is in his 6th year after taking over from Haliru Bello who was removed in 2016, offered to quit to pacify the Wike’s camp.

A reliable party source close to the BoT chairman, Wednesday revealed that Jibrin has already briefed members of the party on this development.

Quiting, he said was in the best interest of the party since there are complaints of regional lop-sidedness.

PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is from Adamawa (North-east), while Sen. Jibrin hails from Nasarawa, North-central, and Iyorchia Ayu, Benue (north-central).

During the debate on which zone should go for the PDP presidential ticket, Ayu was reported to offer to resign as PDP national chairman if a northerner emerged the party’s presidential candidate.

However, despite calls for his resignation, the national chairman has stayed put, saying that those who want him out of office “are small boys”.

Governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, had demanded that the PDP national chairman step down, as a precondition for resolving their rift with Atiku.

TMSnews gathered that some stakeholders are insisting that Ayu resign from his position too “in the interest of equity.

Some of NWC members are unhappy that Ayu called aggrieved members of the party “the boys” in the midst of peace efforts.
