Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River state has approved the constitution of two statutory bodies on Climate Change and Green Economy in the state.
The constitution of the commission is in line with the Climate Change and the Green Economy Commission law of Cross River State.
The two statutory bodies according to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Nsa Gill and made available to TMSNEWS are the State Council on Climate Change and the State Green Economy Commission.
The two bodies according to the statement are expected to provide strategic direction, ensure policy implementation, and coordinate intersectoral collaborations to achieve the state climate change goals and green economic aspirations, among other responsibilities.
The two statutory heads and members of council and the commission, TMSnews gathered are consisted of nine members with Governor Bassey Otu as Chairman , Deputy Governor Peter Odey Vice Chairman, Commissioner for Environment Member, Emmanuel Etim Member.
Others include: Adam Nkanor Member, Veronica N. Jakarasi, Member , Joseph Onoja Member, While Dr. Mrs. Edu Effiom is the Director General of the Council.
The Cross River State Green Economy Commission is also consist of nine members with the Commissioner for Special Deputies and Intergovernmental Relations, Oden Ewa as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer.
Other members of the commission are: Xavier Eyamba, Engr. Peter Ohiero, Justin Andoh Elesh, Ekpor Erekoro, Austin Eremi, Stephen Eguba Ekwok, Barr. William Itorok and Edwin Usang as then Secretary of the Commission.
The statement explained that the two bodies have been saddled with the mandate of strengthening collaborations with development partners and stakeholders on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and green economic growth, among other assigned duties.
The statement added that the Committee assignments and functions
commenced from the date of announcement.
