Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has called for collective action from all stakeholders from the north-central to foster peace, strengthen justice in the region.
Governor Alia stated this on Monday, July 27, 2025, during the opening of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) North-Central Security Summit in Makurdi themed of the summit is “Strengthening Security, Rule of Law, and Justice Delivery in North-Central Nigeria.”
Governor Alia appreciated the NBA for the initiative to hold the summit and discuss critical issues of security, Rule of Law, and Justice as they affect the region, and for selecting Benue State as a destination for the landmark event.
Ali said his administration was determined to build an economy founded on functional education, employment generation, and agricultural development within a secured environment, a resolved which he said informed the steadfast commitment of his government to ensuring that absolute peace returns to Benue State.
He appreciated the collaborative efforts of security agencies and community stakeholders which has led to improved peace in some areas that were hitherto infested with insecurity.
Governor Alia also noted the imperative of innovative strategies, transformative dialogue, and collective action to foster peace, uphold the rule of law, and strengthen justice delivery systems across the North-Central region.
He insisted that “As leaders, it is our collective duty to unite in purpose and action, drawing from our shared expertise and experiences to forge enduring solutions that restore faith in our institutions and ensure the safety and prosperity of our people.”
He told participants that “Benue State Government under our watch has demonstrated commitment to strengthening security, rule of law, and justice delivery which is essential for fostering peace, stability, and development in the region”.
The Governor explained that in the past two years, his administration has given maximum attention to security through investment in law enforcement agencies, including the provisions of vehicles and improving local security posts and patrol systems, amongst other things.
He called on all participants to commit themselves to building peace, knowing that their efforts today will lay the foundation for a more secure, just, and prosperous future for the people.
Earlier, the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN extended profound appreciation to Governor Alia for his leadership and gracious support in hosting the summit, saying the NBA North-Central Security Summit 2025 was a resounding call to action, a bold and deliberate statement that they would not be silent in the face of deepening insecurity in the country.
He added that the NBA remained committed to advocating policy reforms, promoting civic education, and ensuring that justice is accessible to all, stressing that their goal was to foster a justice system that protects the vulnerable, holds perpetrators accountable, and reinforces public trust.
The Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Sam Ode, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barr. Fidelis Mnyim, some members of the Benue State Executive Council, and other top government functionaries, amongst others.
