The Investigative Committee probing allegations of gross misconduct against the suspended Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Council, Aminu Ladan, has rejected his request to restrain itself from commencing hearing of the matter, adjourning instead to Monday, August 25, 2025.
At its inaugural sitting on Thursday, the Committee Chairman, Justice Abdullahi Mikhailu, confirmed receipt of a letter from Ladan’s counsel, Anthony Orifumishe, citing two objections: inadequate notice of service and a subsisting interim court order restraining further proceedings.
The Committee’s lead counsel, Barr. Usman Nuraini Baba, Director of Public Prosecution in Niger State, however argued that the said interim order had lapsed following the transfer of the case to a Suleja High Court, stressing that the case would have to commence afresh (de novo). He maintained that the committee could proceed with hearing.
In his ruling, Justice Mikhailu held that all previous interim orders were nullified with the transfer of the case. He nonetheless acknowledged that the service of notice to the respondent fell short of the 24-hour legal requirement. He adjourned the matter to August 25, 2025, to allow the suspended Chairman sufficient time to prepare his defence.
Other members of the probe panel include Barrister Bala Marika and Alhaji Abubakar Salisu, with Barrister Ibrahim Mohammed Babangida serving as Secretary.
