The Ogbunike community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of their illustrious son, Dr. Chuma-Harris Odili, popularly known as Eze Ogbono, Ogene Ogbunike, and Ogene Igbo.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, August 23, 2025, shortly after Odili—who was contesting for the Igweship position of his community following the demise of their traditional ruler—attended a public function hosted by his rival contender for the Ogbunike traditional stool.

Eyewitness account said the Nollywood veteran, renowned culture promoter, journalist, and public relations expert was exchanging pleasantries with guests when he attempted to spray money on some dancing women. As he stepped backward, he suddenly slumped to the ground.

He was rushed to the hospital and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but was pronounced dead a few hours later.

The news of his passing came barely a day after he had shared a message of peace and unity on his social media page—an act many now describe as both symbolic and prophetic.

His death has sparked widespread grief across social media, with tributes pouring in for the respected cultural icon, celebrated as a fearless voice of truth.

In a statement confirming his demise, the family announced:
