The Vatican early this morning announced the transition of Pope Francis at 7:35 Vatican time or 6:35 am, Nigerian time.
The first Latin- American Pontiff was elected in 2013 and has not been in good health in the last couple of weeks, from double pneumonia infections.
He actively participated in this year’s Easter Sunday activities and offered his traditional blessings from St. Peters Basilica in Rome. He was the first non- European pontiff in 1300 years.
During his pontificate, he championed the poor, migrants and the environment.
