The Senate Tuesday suspended plenary in honour of late member Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State.
Mrs Onanuga, who was the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives died last month during a brief illness.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio told that Lawmakers that the suspension was in line with parliamentary tradition.
Meanwhile, the Senate has announced Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the substantive pioneer Chairman of the newly created South East Development Commission ( SEDC ) , one of the Regional Development Commissions signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
The appointment was announced by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio during plenary in Abuja.
Senator Ken Eze was also appointed as the vice chairman of the committee
Akapbio also noted that other members of the committee will be announced in due course.
With this development, Kalu who also chaired the screening adhoc committee on regional development commissions of the North West and South East is expected to lead other members of the committee to conduct oversight of the South-East Development Commission to achieve its laid down objectives
