The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested the former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello over allegations of fund misappropriation.
Bello was apprehended on Tuesday afternoon shortly after voluntarily presenting himself the Anti graft Agency Headquarters in Abuja.
TMSnews gathered that the former governor arrived at the anti-graft agency’s office in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by his legal team.
The arrest follows a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed states’ objections to the EFCC’s constitutional powers. This decision paved the way for further investigations into alleged financial improprieties during Bello’s tenure.
Sources informed our correspondent that the EFCC is grilling the former governor on various financial matters, including a fresh case brought against him by the commission.
At a prior hearing on November 14, the EFCC had sought an adjournment until November 27, citing the ongoing 30-day window for the summons it issued against Bello.
The arrest marks a significant development in the commission’s efforts to tackle corruption and financial misconduct among public officials.
