Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria police have arrested a kidnapper recovered N6. 9m, firearms and other items after a lone auto crash involving the suspects.
The arrest followed a strategic efforts by the command in combating growing spate of kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
The command in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, explained that the Command arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered sophisticated firearms and cash amounting to N6.9 million Naira after a lone auto crash that involved the suspects.
Nansel said further that “On 18/08/2025 at about 0908hrs, police operatives attached to Garaku Division received a distress call from Angwan Mayo community regarding a lone crash near the VIO checkpoint. Two occupants of an Opel Vectra vehicle with registration number PLATEAU BLD 566 ST reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident”.
“Upon arrival, operatives discovered that members of the public had already gathered, while a vigilant VIO officer handed over a G3 rifle and cash earlier recovered from the accident vehicle”.
“The accident vehicle was immediately towed to the police station where a thorough search was conducted”.
He said the operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, one type 06 rifle, one G3 rifle, three magazines and fifty-seven rounds of live ammunition.
According to him, the police, in collaboration with the military, launched a manhunt on fleeing suspects which led to the arrest of one of them identified as Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, confessing to be a member of a seven-member kidnap gang that abducted an Abuja lawyer whose ransom was collected before the crash.C
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jaura Mohammed has directed that the suspect and all exhibits recovered be transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.
He commanded the security agencies and members of the public for their unwavering commitment to ending crimes and criminality in the in the state.
