Supporters of Sunday Adeyemo, self-acclaimed activist better known as Sunday Igboho, are currently at Cour De’appal De Cotonou, where he is expected to be arraigned.
Igboho was arrested in Benin Republic while he was trying to escape to Germany, had been declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) after a raid on his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on July 1. Thirteen of his associates were arrested while two of them were shot dead in a gun battle.
Igboho’s supporters had earlier on held protests in Ibadan on Wednesday, accusing the Federal Government of witch-hunting him.
Meanwhile, Olusegun Bamgbose, the National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has told President Muhammadu Buhari to release self-determination campaigners, Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu, to the Southern Governors.
Nnamdi Kanu is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, after he was a few weeks ago rearrested in Kenya and bundled back to Nigeria while Sunday gboho was arrested in neighbouring Benin Republic on Monday night and is currently in detention in Cotonou.
However, the Nigerian authorities have been silent on Igboho’s arrest but there are reports of intense efforts to extradite him.
