National Chairman of the main opposition PDP, Sen Dr Iyorchia Ayu has survived the harmer of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike’s camp.
Ayu who has been the arrow head of the six conditions placed before the party to reunite for the kick off of it’s presidential campaign, was instead, given a clean bill.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has passed a vote of confidence on Dr. Ayu and members of his National Working Committee (NWC).
The confidence vote was passed on Thursday, at the ongoing NEC meeting of the party in Abuja, and comes amid push for his resignation by the camp of Nyesom Wike, Rivers State governor.
House minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu moved the motion for the vote of confidence and was seconded by Kola Balogun.
Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President who was appointed acting BoT chairman, put the motion to voice vote and members answered in the affirmative.
Sen Wabara who earlier took charge from the former Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Sen Wali Jibrin, is from the Southeast.
However, the Wike’s camp kicked against the outcome, insisting, it is Ayu’s resignation or never.
Gov Wike who was conspicuously absence from the important NEC meeting had told The Nation newspapers in Portharcout that the position of the PDP Board of Trustees was not in contention as it is a merely advisory board.
He hinted on the provision of the PDP, citing instances of how ex PDP Chairman, Dr Okwisieze Nwodo had stepped down for Alhaji Haliru Muhammed to emerged when ex President Goodluck Jonathan emerged the PDP presidential candidate in 2011.
