Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) on bail.
According to reports? Ajaero’s release was facilitated by Barrister Marshal Abubakar from Femi Falana Chambers, solicitors to the NLC.
Ajaero’s detention by the DSS sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across the country and mostly from labour activists and civil society groups who described it as ill timed and mindless especially when he was billed to attend an international event abroad.
Red alerts were issued earlier by labour, threatening mass protest across sectors with many unions already bracing for the protest.
Meanwhile, Ajaero, in an interview after his release, said that he was grilled by both DSS and the police over his purported relationship with a British national named Amdrew Wynne, allegedly in connection with terrorism financing and his support of the #endbadgovernance# protest in the country recently. He was held for about 15 hours and prevented from travelling to participate in a Trade Union Conference in Britain
