Former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Hon. Dr. Mike Omeri, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Nasarawa South Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections, unveiling a broad development agenda centred on economic empowerment, inclusion, and community transformation.
In a statement issued to the media on Monday, Omeri said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to provide purposeful, developmental, and visible leadership to the district.
“I will be on the ballot to provide purposeful and developmental leadership for the Nasarawa South Senatorial District,” he declared.
He explained that his leadership approach would be forward-looking, combining immediate solutions to present challenges with long-term planning for sustainable development.
“My approach will be futuristic by preparing everyone to face the present squarely while preparing for the future with great hope and optimism,” he stated.
Omeri, whose campaign is anchored on performance and service delivery, said his agenda would focus on empowering citizens, particularly through economic inclusion and support for entrepreneurship.
According to him, his administration would “empower minds and drive a socially complementary economic agenda to ensure that no one is left behind in multiple sectors as best as possible.”
He added that priority would be given to start-ups, small businesses, and innovation-driven initiatives as a way of tackling unemployment and poverty.
“We shall foster a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, provide support for start-ups and small businesses to encourage inclusion for self-preservation,” he said.
Omeri expressed concern over rising poverty levels and what he described as the shrinking of the middle class, warning that urgent intervention is needed to reverse the trend.
“Over the years, the population has become beggarly in a situation where the ladder of poverty keeps growing higher by eliminating the middle class and suffocating the masses,” he noted.
He further outlined what he described as the guiding philosophy of his campaign, stressing unity, organisation, and community transformation.
“Our mantra and campaign direction shall be focused mainly on organising, uniting, transforming and building communities in real terms,” Omeri said.
On infrastructure and social services, the former NOA boss promised investment in people-centred projects, including healthcare and community-driven development initiatives aimed at improving quality of life.
He said, “We are duty-bound when elected to deliver a task, and that would determine the steps we shall take honourably in all spaces in Nasarawa South.”
Omeri also expressed optimism that Nasarawa South would reclaim its leadership role in education, wealth creation, and social cohesion.
“Nasarawa South shall reclaim our leadership of purpose and direction, of wealth creation and education. We shall be our brothers keepers in all ways and in all forms within human capacity, rooted in God Almighty and with the fear of His wrath,” he stated.
He emphasized the need for a constituency where citizens can thrive and contribute meaningfully to development.
“We must envision a constituency where people thrive, contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic progress of our society in an ecosystem that supports the growth of everyone and all sectors,” Omeri added.
